Disabled Ancient Ostia Tours
The beautifully preserved ruins of Ancient Ostia wheelchair accessible tours, lie twenty miles from Rome, in the meadows between the Tiber River and the Tyrrhenian Sea.
The excavations of Ancient Ostia certainly represent one of the most important archaeological areas in the world.
In this vast complex of imposing structures and, in some cases, well-preserved, we can find a complete repertoire of popular architectural and urban forms of Roman antiquity.
Touring Ancient Ostia
There is a lot to see, and a leisurely wander is extremely rewarding.
Major sites include the Roman Theater ( there are plays put on here in the summer ), the impressive Forum, a large baths complex and more than one Mithraeum.
Many of the buildings are preserved up to the second storey, giving a powerful sense of the past.
The urban design of Ancient Ostia was similar to that of a typical Roman town.
It was crossed by Decumanus Maximus in an east-west direction and by Cardo Maximus in a north-south direction.
The Forum was the centre of the town as it was situated at the junction between these two streets.
The city could be accessed through three main gates: Porta Romana, that is the Eastern gate at the end of Via Ostiense, Porta Laurentina that is the Southern gate at the end of the Cardus Maximus and Porta Marina, that is the Western gate, facing the sea, at the end of the Decumanus Maximus.
Ancient Ostia is partially accessible but despite of it we‘re thinking that disabled wheelchair users shouldn’t give up the passion of an holiday tours around the site.
We can provide a safe and a full disabled Ancient Ostia tours accessible.
