Capitoline Museums Wheelchair Accessible Tours

Capitoline Museums wheelchair accessible tours, form a complex of buildings that make up the main civic museum in Rome.

It covers an exhibition area of almost 13,000 sqm and preserves an artistic and historical heritage of immense value and is among the best known museums in the world.

The historical site was established in Palazzo dei Conservatori and in Palazzo Nuovo.

The two buildings are located in Piazza del Campidoglio ( Capitoline Hill ) renovated following the design of Michelangelo and are joined by the Lapidary Gallery, an underpass that crosses Piazza del Campidoglio without leaving the museums.

Its origin is in fact dated 1471, when Pope Sixtus IV donated some bronze sculptures to the citizens, laying the foundations for what is now considered one of the finest collections of classical art.

The various floors of the Palazzo dei Conservatori and the Palazzo Nuovo are connected by elevators.

To go down to the Lapidary Gallery from the Palazzo Nuovo and to go up to the Tabularium it is possible to use stairlifts.

To access the temporary exhibitions on the second floor of Palazzo Caffarelli, you can use the lift.

Ask the custodial staff for the activation of the stairlifts and for the lift.

The museum makes some wheelchairs ( limited numbers ) available to people with mobility difficulties.

Ask at the ticket office or from the guardian.

Near the bar there are also comfortable toilets, equipped for people with disabilities.
