Villa Farnesina is one of the most important and artistically rich Renaissance buildings in Rome from the early XVI century.

It is located in the Trastevere district between the Gianicolo Hill to the west and the Tiber River to the east.

The Villa was built according to a design by Baldassarre Peruzzi between 1506 and 1512 at the behest of the very rich banker Agostino Chigi.

Was considered the prototype of a Roman suburban villa.

The great pomp of Agostino Chigi's banquets has remained proverbial.

In 1518 he went so far as to have all the gold dishes and cutlery thrown into the Tiber, but cunningly had his servants recover them thanks to specially prepared nets.

The construction of the Tiber banks led to the destruction of part of the gardens and the loggia, perhaps the work of Raphael.

The villa passed to the Farnese Family in 1590, hence the name, and to the Bourbons from 1714.
