Trajan Market Wheelchair Accessible Tours
The so-called Trajan Markets wheelchair accessible tours, today a real museum in which the remains from the archaeological excavations of the other imperial forums are also exhibited, were not originally just a shopping centre, but something much more!
In fact, the area, with its large surface and its development in terraced blocks, was actually a real multifunctional center of antiquity.
The space between the Forum of Trajan and the western slopes of the Quirinale was used, at the behest of the emperor, for the construction of the famous Trajan Market.
In fact, this huge architectural complex is located right in the heart of Ancient Rome, a few steps from the Colosseum and the Roman Forum.
Touring Trajan Market
The architect of Trajan Markets was most likely the same as that of the homonymous forum: Apollodorus of Damascus, a pupil of the emperor and considered one of the greatest and most innovative architects of the time.
A visit to Trajan Markets in Rome can therefore easily be combined with the Colosseum and the Roman Forum.
Impossible not to see them as soon as you reach Via dei Fori Imperiali.
In fact, the large red brick complex stands on our left as we walk along the historic avenue in the direction of the Colosseum.
It is curious to be able to admire this huge shopping center from the inside, perhaps the oldest still existing in the world.
Shops, administrative offices, workshops follow one another on several floors.
Visitors can walk through these long semi-circular corridors and climb up to the top floor.
From here it is possible to admire the entire archaeological area of Rome and the Colosseum in all its majesty.
